Introduction to the Australian Society of Chinese Medicine Ltd

The Chinese Medicine & Acupuncture Society of Australia Ltd (CMASA for short) is a national, non-profit professional academic group composed of professional Chinese medicine practitioners and acupuncturists in Australia. The governing body of the Society is the responsibility system of the President and CEO under the leadership of the Council, and the financial management method operates in accordance with the Federal Corporation Law. Company finances are managed by professional accountants and licensed auditors.

The highest authority of the society is the annual general meeting. The term of each council is two years. One-third of the updated directors selected by all members at the annual general meeting are enriched to the board of directors. At the same time, one-third of the directors are scheduled to retire. The association has one president, five vice presidents, one secretary-general, one deputy secretary-general, and eight functional departments, including the Academic Department, the Finance Department, the Development Department, the Friendship Department, the Qualifications Review Department, and the Scientific Research Department. Time line

The Association was established at the end of 1990, initiated and established by 17 senior Chinese medicine professionals living in Australia, and named as “Australia New South Wales Chinese Medicine Research Association”. In March 1999, it was re-registered as a limited public company under the Federal Companies Act. Officially changed its name to “Australian Chinese Medicine Association Ltd”. In early 2003, it was approved by the Federal Tax Service for members of the Association to enjoy the GST FREE discount on TCM acupuncture services. In recent years, with the support and joining of our society, it has become the most powerful Chinese Medicine Society in Australia.

The members of this association come from all over the world. In addition to most of them from mainland China, there are also from Southeast Asian countries, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau. Most of them have received formal higher education in traditional Chinese medicine and strict modern medical knowledge training. In addition to the formal education of college or above, there are many members with intermediate and senior professional and technical titles, such as master, doctor, professor, associate professor, chief physician and deputy chief physician. Most of the members have practiced medicine in regular hospitals and have experience in opening clinics in Australia. As of October 30, 2016, the Association has 4293 registered members, and continues to recruit new members across Australia, as well as overseas members. There are branches in all provinces of the country. After the registration of Chinese medicine practitioners, the society is strengthening management and improving quality to ensure the best quality service to consumers.

The Association maintains close contact with the TCM community around the world, and regularly liaises, communicates and visits with Chinese and other TCM professional groups. The Society holds more than ten professional academic activities every year to improve the professional academic level of its members.

The Society has been providing consultations to new members about opening a clinic for many years. Help members to apply for medical insurance, and recommend members to obtain the consultation fee rebate plan of private insurance companies. And regularly hold first aid certificate classes. Now the Association is recognized by almost all private insurance companies in Australia
